Are Protas agents people or AI?
AI. Protas agents work inside TaxOS with the permissions of the person they work for. They are not your staff, your tax adviser or Setoff’s data team, and people at your company review their work and sign every filing.
Does Setoff file tax returns?
Setoff prepares the return and its evidence, and a named person at your company approves it. Where the revenue authority offers an API, the approved return goes through it on the authority’s terms; elsewhere your team files the prepared return.
Is Setoff a tax adviser or an accounting firm?
No. Setoff is software, and Setoff Managed adds our data team to prepare and reconcile records. Your team and your advisers make the tax decisions and sign them.
What does Setoff connect to?
Your accounting system, read-only: QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Books, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Where a revenue authority allows it, Setoff also works through the authority’s API, on the authority’s terms.
Which countries does Setoff cover?
Setoff is live in Tanzania and in early access in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia; the revenue authorities of all five (TRA, KRA, URA, RRA and ZRA) accept its data structure. Tax workflows for 17 African countries are mapped, and 91% of them run in Setoff as they are.
Which AI models does Protas use, and do they train on our data?
Protas runs on Claude by Anthropic and on OpenAI models, under their business terms, which bar them from training on your data. Your records are encrypted and hosted on AWS in Europe (Frankfurt).
How is our data protected?
Each session belongs to one company, every request is checked against the person’s permissions, and the database returns only that company’s records. Setoff runs on AWS with data encrypted at rest and in transit, and every record exports to CSV.
How much does Setoff cost?
You pay per person. Specialist is priced per module each person uses; Enterprise covers every module, from five people; Managed Enterprise adds a quoted fee for Setoff’s data work. Book a demo and a written quote follows that lists every cost.
Is Setoff the same as a tax set-off?
No. A tax set-off is when a revenue authority applies a refund you are owed against tax you owe. Setoff is a software company that helps tax teams prepare and keep their tax work.
How we keep your data.
Your records are encrypted at rest and in transit, and hosted on AWS in Europe (Frankfurt), a region many enterprises already trust with their data. We handle personal data to the GDPR standard and to your country’s data protection law. Protas runs only on models from established AI providers, under business terms that bar them from training on your data .
