Ask a CFO in logistics or payments how long close takes and you will hear a number between 10 and 18 days. Ask where the time goes and it is almost never the trial balance.
The last week is intercompany: a Swedish OpCo invoicing a UK holdco, an FX entity that books in SEK and reports in USD, and a pack that still lives in a shared drive. By the time FP&A gets a number they trust, the board pack is already late.
Setoff’s working theory is simple. Close compresses when every entity files into the same operating layer, and when the controller is not the integration.

November 10, 2025I love how this reminds us that the earth doesn't need saving, it just needs space. Such a powerful perspective.
